Amazing green gold architecture: bamboo courtyard tea house by Chinese architects HWCD associates

Bamboo-Courtyard-Teahouse-by-HWCD_ss_6Situated in the ShiQiao garden in Yangzhou, a city to the northwest of Shanghai, the tea house is organized in asymmetric cubes and floats on a lake. Made of sustainable building materials Bamboo & bricks, the Bamboo Courtyard provides the adequate setting to a tea experience with a very unique connect with the natural environment. Bamboo poles are used as walls, dividers and shading devices that also encourage natural ventilation. Tall rows of bamboo sticks create corridors along the outdoor walkway and are arranged in a very aesthetic way – both vertically and horizontally to produce depth and as you walk around. The strong verticality becomes more apparent at night when the teahouse lights up to illuminate the surroundings.
